Our studio collaborated with Six Degrees Architects and City of Melbourne to create a wayfinding strategy and design language for the new narrm ngarrgu Library and Family Services . The Wayfinding will improve how visitors are guided through the areas, and it encourages discovery of the diverse experiences, attractions and services that are on offer.
narrm ngarrgu which means “Melbourne knowledge” in the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung language has taken centre stage in the name and branding. Additional spcaes and areas were also collectively named in the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung language. With this collaboration with Aboriginal elders and artists, the council has sought to ensure recognition of Melbourne’s traditional owners.
The library provides a range of services, stretching beyond the remit of a traditional book-lender. The Makerspace offers emerging creatives a place to work, by way of dedicated painting, photography and podcasting studios, plus equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters.
This project is being run in parallel with other wayfinding projects that we are developing in the precinct.
These include the redevelopment of Queen Victoria Market with City of Melbourne and QV Munro with Mirvac. We are excited to see this precinct fully activated in the coming years.
